Intermediate Snowshoe - Granite Lakes (winter)

A nice post Christmas snowshoe.

  • Snow and ice on road
  • With lowland snow on Christmas I was concerned about the middle fork road. It proved to be OK but was snow covered after the Mailbox trailhead so we had no issues getting to the granite creek trailhead and the pit toilets were not locked.

We hiked the granite creek trail to the granite lake trail and followed it to the upper lake. While the trail had snow on it we did not need snowshoes until a couple of 100 yards from the lake. After a pleasant lunch at the lake we decided to follow the creek to the lower lake but low snow levels made working through the boulder field not pleasant, so we retraced our tracks to just above the lower lake and then dropped through the woods to a view just above the lower lake.
