Trip Report

Intermediate Alpine Climb - Observation Rock/North Face

The ramp is not quite ready to support solid ice screw placements. We had bomber picket anchors and questionable ice screw placements between.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

Group of six headed in via Knapsack pass at 6:30AM. Uneventful approach with beautiful weather and moderate temperature. Followed lovely trail marked by cairns almost the entire way. Traversed over to the moraine at the base of the snow/ice ramp.

Three teams went up simultaneously. The ramp is not quite ready to support solid ice screw placements. We had bomber picket anchors and questionable (i.e. useless) ice screw placements between.

We brought in 4 pickets and 8 ice screws per team.

Summited Observation Rock and made our way down the Flett glacier. Snow was soft enough to plunge step.

Looped back down via the Spray Park trail. Back at the cars at 6:00PM.

This was a mentored lead for Caycee Holt.
