Hope Island

  • Hope Island
  • Sea Kayaking

Nineteen students and 12 leaders launched from Boston Harbor, paddled to Hope Island on the flood and returned to Boston Harbor. Weather was near ideal at high temperature in the low 70's and light winds. The trip plan took us west to Cooper Point, north to Hunter Point and a crossing to Hope Island. We were organized into three groups of 6-7 students and 4 leaders per group. All groups circumnavigated Hope Island, conducted rescue practice and stopped for lunch at Hope Island State Park. The return trip was backtracking the route with a wonderful surprise as we approached our take out at Boston Harbor. We were greeting by a pod of transient orca whales just west and north of Boston Harbor. Total trip time was approximately six hours without incident. Beautiful day!
