Trip Report

Glacier Peak/Disappointment Peak Cleaver

No recent trip reports here, however, a few recent reports on peakbagger.com and NWhikers made me optimistic that the route was in shape.
Saturday was colder and windier than expected. We camped just below White chuck glacier basin in the lower basin. All camp sites in the rocky area were taken by several other parties. We wanted to avoid wind in the White Chuck glacier basin, and camping on heather in the lower basin. We found a few nice sites on grass on climbers left towards the lake. Running water was close.
A graupel shower right after we had set up camp. It started snowing at around 4am, a slight dusting at 5am - we postponed out take off -, a good inch by 7am. We canceled the summit bid then: The forecast was for more snow during the day, possibly windy. Visibility was not great. It might have been a miserable summit with scrambling over snow covered rocks. Then another night in camp. We played safe.
The group was in great spirits despite our turn around, it was a first winter wonderland. The way down was mostly in clouds, little wind. Back at the cars by 5:30pm
