Trails were surprisingly dry at Squak on April 22, 2018.
Earth Day was a great day for hiking: sunny, clear, temperate. Though the parking lot for the May Valley trailhead at Squak was busy there were not that many people on the trails. It felt like we had the park to ourselves!
Trails were dry and made for good hiking. We reached the Bullit fireplace via May Valley and Bullit Gorge trails, then after a short break at the fireplace, we tagged the Central Peak summit and checked out the radio towers before descending the way we came.
This was a conditioning hike and we were able to maintain a steady, solid pace. Squak is a great place for this kind of hike even though there aren't many opportunities to get views.
