Day Hike - Mount Townsend

Gorgeous route, trail in outstanding condition, panoramic views though flowers a bit past their peak.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

  • Trail bed is in outstanding shape though a few spots were fairly slippery scree going down.   A few places with running water in the first half, then dry and exposed above that.  Definitely a good idea to park in the lower trailhead parking!

We met at 8:30AM at the lower TH parking lot and made quick work of the 1.2 miles to the upper TH lot which was already jammed full.  Nice pit toilet building at the upper TH with TP!

A few rhodys were still blooming in the first couple of miles and quite a few other flowers along the rest of the route though past their peak.  Trail was a steady grade with really good trail conditions and no snow.  We went on up to the summit and then on to the North summit before coming back and looping around and then descending.    Views  SW over the Olympics were stunning though cloud deck obscured the Straits and Hood Canal and beyond.   Definitely a nice hike.
