Day Hike - Mount Rose

Lead as a conditioner. Bare trail to Horese Camp, then used microspikes and snowshoes to the summit.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The trail was essentially bare to the Horse Camp.  Above the Horse Camp we used microspikes until we crossed the creek at about El. 3600'.  From there we used snowshoes.  We went too far south and ended up on the SE ridge of Rose, but there were no issues, just a little more steep climbing to get to the summit.  We descended from the summit without snowshoes and put them on when the terrain became less steep.

Times:  2 hours to Horse Camp; 4.5 hours T.H. to the summit; total trip was 8 hours.
