Day Hike - Mount Rose

This is intended as a conditioner hike. Preference given to Olympia Alpine Scrambling students.

  • Very Strenuous
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 6.4 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,500 ft

6:00 am, Martin Way Park and Ride, Lacey, WA.

Directions to Martin Way Park and Ride:

1. Exit 109 from I-5

2. Turn east on Martin Way.

3. The Park and Ride is on the left, less than 1/8 mile from the exit.

Snowshoes will be required for this trip, and microspikes are strongly recommended in case the snow is hard.

This is a strenuous hike/snowshoe that is intended as a Conditioner, i.e., it will meet the experience scramble requirement for a Conditioner.  These early season Conditioners are for you to gage your current fitness, help you select future trips that are appropriate for you and to let you test out your gear.  Therefore so that you are not miserable on this trip, before registering please consider the elevation gain, what you think your current condition to be and your experience with snowshoes.  If you have never been on snowshoes or only used them on flat terrain, I would not recommend this trip.  Instead wait to do a Conditioner until at least after the Snow 1 field trip where you will get the opportunity to try out your snowshoes on steeper terrain.

Give me a call/send an email if you have any questions.
