Trip Report

Day Hike - Little Ranger Overlook

A good spring conditioner hike on a hot and sunny day.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trail was in great condition with all the downed trees recently cleared.

The group started from the Camp Shepard trailhead and followed the White River Trail parallel to Highway 410 and then climb the Ranger Creek trail to Little Ranger Overlook for lunch.  As an in-and-out hike, we followed the same route to return to the trailhead. The weather was clear and sunny with temperatures reaching 80 degrees by the time we returned to the trailhead.  Wildflowers included the last of the trillium, mountain violets and fairy slippers.

Route planning using Caltopo indicated this hike would be 8.2 miles/1400 ft elevation gain.  Gia tracked the trip as 9.2 miles/1700 ft.
