Trip Report

Day Hike - Lake Ingalls

About a foot of new snow in the Headlight basin beyond the pass made navigation difficult since the trail was completely covered. Became more of a snow scramble than a hike. We reached the bottom of the basin past the grove of larches, but decided to turn around towards the part where the trail goes over rocky terrain and was not visible.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trail is easily accessible to all vehicles. We reached at 8:15 am and surprisingly were the first to arrive. Likely due to the inclement weather. Trail had an 1-2 inch of fresh snow, but did not need traction devices as it was not icy. Much more snow than I had anticipated beyond Ingalls Pass. I would say at least one foot of new snow which made route finding difficult since there were no tracks visible. In the interest of safety and time, decided to turn around.
