The West Side Road is well-graded, but has some chuck holes that must be avoided. The hiking route was in good condition all the way. We had good views of Mt. Rainier on the hike in, but fog engulfed Lake George during our lunch break there and continued, along with showers on the hike out. The heavier rain held off until we had reached the cars.
There was interest in photographing some areas where leaves were changing color, and excellent views of Mt. Rainier during the hike in. It took us about two hours each direction to do the hike. The Marine Memorial was nice to visit, near the junction of the trail with the closed road.
