Day Hike - Kennedy Creek

Good close in hike, has many optional routes depending on trail conditions. Some views of Olympics and Rainer and a waterfall!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Your park along side the road, across from the orange gate . Generous shoulder fit 6 cars easy. Take multi navigation, paper map, GAIA and compass. Some "trails" are overgrown and needed Gaia to navigate and stay on track (this was intentional), some usual cut through trails, some have names and are named. Timber roads are a warren of roads with letters after some of the numbers. Mt Madron has a nice view of the Olympics, Puget sound and Mt. Rainer. A better lunch spot would be on the way down toward Kennedy Falls, 4 Amigo's overlook. There are a few wild flowers, skunk cabbage is prolific on the wet trail near the falls.

A road grater passed us, we saw some prep work for logging on a trail across the ridge from us. No bugs now but could be a issue latter. Sunscreen, glasses and hats for open area.

Good local adventure, we all felt like kids exploring!

Nice little waterfall and cool mini mountain. With wandering trails (intentional) we did 10 miles, you can adjust to much shorter if you stay on timber roads. Elevation all told on our route was around 880 ft. There is a good Salmon overlook for fall viewing, short walk in from road, they may open gate in salmon season to drive to. Be curious it is timber company and private land. Surprisingly no trash seen! Reminded me of Capital forest trails and logging roads.
