Day Hike - Grand Forest-Fairy Dell Trail
This was my first hike as a leader for the Singles Activities Committee. It was partly sunny with a nice breeze, the trail conditions were excellent and it was low tide when we hiked down to the beach on the Fairy Dell Trail.

Our carpool left the 6th Avenue Park & Ride at 7:45 am and we arrived at Battleground State Park at 8:45 am. The trail was dry and the only hazard was horse manure on the trail.
There were eight of us on this trip. One cancelled due to a family emergency. The three Seattle area hikers carpooled and caught the Seattle-Bainbridge Island Ferry. The four Tacoma area hikers carpooled from the Narrows Park and Ride. The Bremerton area hiker met us at Battle Point Park. Everyone showed up by 9 am and we completed the hike at 3:15 pm.
Three of the participants had recently joined the Mountaineers. I was concerned because one of the hikers was sore so I made the decision to drive to the parking lot opposite the Fairy Dell Trail. Total mileage was 7.2 instead of 7.5 miles.
It was a low tide so we were able to walk on the beach. One unusual sight was a large, intact egg on the beach. It may of washed down from a nest near the high tide mark. Fortunately one of the hikers was from that area and identified many of the landmarks we had questions about.
