Trip Report

Day Hike - Glacier Basin (Mount Rainier)

Trail fairly clear of snow and has a nice gradual incline. Trail is in good condition.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Only a few patches of snow left on the trail.

After looking at some recent trip reports that mentioned snow covering anywhere between 20% and 70% trail after about two miles we only encountered  a few patches of snow on the trail! I also noticed that the mileage on the trail varies from different resources. If you start from the overnight parking area  you could potentially get to 7 miles but from the trailhead it is closer to 6.2 miles.

The weather report also predicted th possibility of rain which we got driving in but luckily for us the clouds parted and the sun began to shine. Along the trail we had three or four great area for pictures of Mt. Rainier.

If you stop in Glacier Basin Campground, the chipmunks will quickly surround you and try to get into you pack. I counted 12  trying to get food from us.  There was also some bear scat on the trail to the toilet.
