Day Hike - Fort Worden State Park

Fantastic beach hike with very pleasant surprises!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

Saturday May 13th 2017. We arrived at Ft Worden and discovered "Glass Beach" was nearby by.  We rerouted to the North Beach TH and headed west along the beach for three miles.  We beachcomber for sea glass on the route and at the dumpsite, sat around and found larger pieces of sea glass.  It was an exploratory trip.  Next one will be posted well in advance as we were lucky to have a mid-day minus low tide (hours to walk the shoreline).  The bluff blocks prevailing winds so approaching weather fronts go unnoticed.  Tides are a major concern.  The beach is somewhat rocky at first, becomes sandy, then a screen field of seaweed before one reached the site and the beach opens up again as sandy with little rock piles to search in.  Bring water, snacks, lunch, a small garden rake, and a small plastic bag for your treasures.  It was hard to pull away as it was a blue bird day but the approaching tide was warning enough. thanks john
