Day Hike - Evergreen Mountain Lookout

Wow the views! Wow the flowers! Short and steep

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trail in great shape, not your typical rocky, rooty, streambed cascade trail. A little thin in some spots and you wouldn't want to miss a step a go tumbling down.

Good road, plenty of parking just past the trailhead in the turnaround. Hour and a half drive from the Monroe P & R. Hour and a quarter hike to the lookout, which is closed for repairs, some from vandalism. Spotted two mountain goats downslope to the SE. Flowers; Solomon seal, glacier lily, heather, columbine, lupine, bunchberry dogwood, tiger lily, asters, gentian, blue bells, cow parsnip, wild strawberries, false indian hellebore, elephant head/lousewort, penstemon, scotch bluebell, thistle, paintbrush, clover, buttercup, and a whole lot more I couldn't remember the name of, colors of flowers; white, yellow, orange, red, blue, lavender, purple. Lots of hillside meadows as you follow the ridge. Some rain showers around, we felt a few drops during the day, and the rain came down hard just a we got in the car in the early afternoon to drive back.
