Trip Report

Day Hike - Crystal Lakes (Mount Rainier)

Beautiful weather on this late summer hike to Crystal Lakes. We began hiking at around 9am, spent about an hour at the lake (including a short walk around the lake), and were back at the cars by early afternoon. It was a successful enjoyable day.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • We had beautiful views of Mt. Rainier at a few lookouts along the way up the trail, as well as Crystal Peak and surrounding mountains at the lake. The trail was mostly very well maintained and dry. There is a section around the lake which appears to have been possibly washed out, but managed to get over it with caution (a couple people decided to go back and meet the group at the north end of the lake before continuing back down to the trailhead).

Beautiful blue sky and a crisp late summer day. Total hiking distance 6.75 miles, 4-1/2 hours, 2,240 elevation gain.
