Trip Report

Day Hike - Coldwater Lake

The group enjoyed hiking the trail along the shore of beautiful Coldwater Lake. The day provided both the last of the summer wild flowers and hints of early fall color. The lunch stop was at a sandy beach on the north end of the lake.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trail is in excellent shape.

The group arrived just after 9:00 am and found only one other car at the trailhead which meant we had the trail to ourselves for most of the day.  The weather was better than forecasted, partly sunny in the mid 60's.

The group hiked north along the shore of Coldwater Lake. The continuous views of the lake were as lovely as always but we were surprised by the number of wild flowers that were still in bloom - lupine, indian paint brush, yarrow and queen anne's lace. At the north end of the lake, there is a  trail spur that provides access to a sandy beach. We had lunch on the beach and wasps were a minor annoyance.  We returned to the trailhead using the same trail arriving at the cars at approximately 2:30.
