Trip Report

Day Hike - Buck Mountain/Elbo Creek

Back to Winter on a nice Spring hike!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • A few big muddy holes in the road to the trailhead right after the turnoff from hwy 101.

Unexpected snow began around 1,200' feet and just got deeper and deeper!  By the time we got to the road portion of the hike, snow was 6 to 8 inches deep and obviously fresh from the last day or two. It was beautiful though, really felt and looked like winter.  It was a peaceful hike, and not another soul on the trail. WTA did a great job of cleaning up down trees and building a couple of bypass sections around big rootballs of fallen trees. We had to duck under two or three on the upper stretch. Total miles came to 7.4 round trip and 2,300' gain.

Light snow fell here and there, peeks of blue sky, and then light gropple on the way back to the cars. I rated this hike a 4 only for the lack of views, otherwise a nice day out on a good trail with great company!
