Chehalis River Surge Plain Trail

February 7, 2016. Beautiful break in the weather, not a drop of rain. This family hike included 6 children and 6 adults. The trail was good, kids loved the scavenger hunt, primarily of plants. We stopped frequently at the many interpretive signs and overlooks for snacks, checks on kids, and socializing. For winter be sure to check the tide table for Montnesano and the Chehalis River -- as with very high tides and lots of rain the surge plain does it's job -- it surges and floods. In late January at high tide the trail and surrounding area was flooding with about 4-5 inches of water. So, we planned our trip in the morning, as an equally high tide was in the afternoon. Great trip and very fun people.
