Trip Report

Backcountry Ski/Snowboard - Roaring Ridge (Snoqualmie)

Due to forecast rain and warm temperatures in the Snoqualmie Pass area -- we toured in the Blewett Pass area and found good conditions.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Snow conditions in the Blewett pass area exceeded expectations today.   NWAC had reported a weak wet loose layer on Saturday -- however checking the SnoTel data for Blewett pass I observed that it was 4F cooler overnight on Saturday night vs Friday night -- so hoping this would freeze up the cruss we decided to make the drive and tour to around 5100 feet elevation where the slope steepened above 20 degrees.   The extended column test shifted slightly at 8 full arm swings, but didn't propagate.   The weak layer did refreeze at least to some degree -- also the top crust had refrozen enough to be supportive and not breakable and was covered by 3-4 inches of new light snow reasonably well bonded to the top crust.
