Austin Pass (winter)

5/9/2015:
9 am start from the parking lot in front of the Gate (to Artist Point). Completely clear and dry road but gate still closed. Artist Point parking lot completely clear too; lots of snow though up there.
Camp setup a few hundred feet towards Table Mountain. Perfect weather for the weekend with sun and minimal wind. Snow soft and wet; watch for snow slouching and avy danger during ice axe arrest practice close to Table Mountain.
Breakable crust at night but no hard freezing. Crampon practices a bit hard because of the soft cover.
Crevasse rescue ideal at Artist Parking lot due to steep snow pile-up from removal.
