Trip Report

Alpine Scramble - Little Si

An after hours scramble up the Open Book scramble route of Little Si

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The route was dry and optimal, especially at the Open Book move which was in great condition.

Left the trailhead at 5:40. Our group ascended the climbers trail between Repo and Awol climbing walls. The trail steeply switchbacks up a break in the cliffs before going straight up steeply, leading to a vertical move but with plenty of great holds. The path continues up past some viewpoints, then veers to the right staying under a small cliff band until it leads to the crack move known as Open Book. The move was dry and in ideal shape and our whole group was successful in ascending the move.  Above that, we continued to scramble upward to a large rock face. The boot path goes around to the right. There appear to be more technical routes up the rock face. However we actually skirted to the left and found a feasible route to continue upward, scrambling up slabby rock to the summit, arriving around 6:50. Hiked the hiking trail back to the trailhead to return at 7:50.
