Alpine Scramble - Labyrinth Mountain

This is an easy alpine scramble with the added benefit of ripe berries and lake swim

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The roads were easily passable for all cars.  Would recommend carpooling to the TH due to limited available parking.

The trail was dry, dusty, and easy to navigate, including the creek bed that is followed from just above the lake to just below the summit.

The only water supply currently is at the lake.

A somewhat early start to beat the expected heat was well worth it.

We kept an easy pace throughout the day enjoying the bounty of huckleberries along the route, and keeping trail dust to a minimum.    The trail was dry, dusty, and easy to navigate, including the creek bed that is followed from just above the lake to just below the summit.

Even with the early start, we found the summit quite busy.  We decided to take lunch just below the summit on the large boulders to give the family on the summit time to enjoy their views.   Once the family was safely down, the students did great work finding us an easy ridgeline accent.    The breeze at the summit kept the black flies to a tolerable limit.

After an uneventful trip back down to the lake, the group decided a invigorating dip in the lake was in order along with refilling our water supplies.

We arrived back at the TH around 4:30pm and decided with the heat a stop on the way home for milkshakes at the Alpine.   A perfect ending for a perfect day!
