Jarrell Cove State Park

A small pretty park with picnicking and camping areas located on the north end of Hartstine Island in Mason County near Olympia. It can be accessed by boat or by road. To extend your day, consider combining it with trails in Harstine Island State Park or Fudge Point State Park.

GETTING THERE

Take Exit 104 off of I-5. Veer north at the intersection of US 101 and SR 8.  Take the Olympic Highway (SR 3 exit) towards Shelton.  Follow State Route 3 east 11 miles, passing through downtown Shelton. Turn right onto E Pickering Rd. Follow E Pickering Rd for 3.3 miles then bear left onto Harstine Island Bridge Rd. Drive over the bridge and come to a "T" junction at 0.6 miles.  Turn left on E North Island Dr and continue for 3 miles to a four-way junction at the island community hall. Continue straight on E North Island Dr for 0.3 mile and turn left onto E Wingert Rd. Drive 0.5 mile and turn left onto the state park road.

ON THE TRAIL

This is a loop trail with some connecting trails that cross the park.  Walk down the road to do the entire loop.  Add some extra mileage by using the connecting trails and going down to the boat docks. The park is filled with second growth firs and evergreen huckleberries that ripen in the fall. To extend your day, consider combining it with trails in Harstine Island State Park or Fudge Point State Park.

Information for Leaders

The Mountaineers has a commercial use permit with Washington State Parks for all free and fee-based outings at state parks. Leaders should carry a print or digital copy of our  commercial use permit to show rangers they may encounter.
