Getting there

Drive US 2 to Scenic, 10 miles east of Skykomish. Turn south into Scenic, cross the railroad tracks, turn right and follow the gravel road 0.3 mile to the Surprise Lake trailhead (2,200 ft).

11 miles round trip with 2,800 feet of elevation gain, 4,900 ft high point

Hike the Surprise Lake Trail 4.6 miles to Surprise Lake (4,500 ft). Continue 1.1 miles to Glacier Lake (4,800 ft).

Surprise Mountain

15.5 miles with 4,100 feet of elevation gain, 6,330 ft high point

From Glacier Lake, continue on the Pacific Crest Trail 1.6 miles to Surprise Gap. Turn right an climb 0.7 mile to the summit of Surprise Mountain (6,330 ft).
