Hawk Peak

A moderate scramble with beautiful views above Silver Lake in the Buckhorn Wilderness. In early summer, the flowers along the trail are spectacular, with several species that grow only in the Olympics.

approach & ascent

This scramble begins with a hike to Silver Lake. The Mount Townsend Trail is a popular destination for hikes to Mount Townsend and scrambles of Mount Townsend & Welch Peaks. Consider approaching from the Silver Creek Trail for more solitude and a smaller "footprint."

From Silver Lake, head south to a saddle and follow the ridge, or to avoid the steeper part of the ridge, head roughly WSW before turning south to gain the ridge.

  • The alpine vegetation in the summit area is hard to avoid, so this trip should not be done by large groups.
