Iverson Railroad & Artifacts Trails

An easy day hike that visits the site of Tiger Mountain's fatal logging train wreck of February 1925. It's 5 miles round trip with 550 feet of elevation gain. Watch for mountain bikes on the Iverson Railroad Trail.

getting there

Drive SR 18 to the Tiger Summit Trailhead, about 4 miles from Exit 25 off of I-90, and continue west on West Side Road to the Iverson Railroad Trailhead (1,480 ft).

on the trail

Hike the Iverson Railroad Trail, a nice forested walk with ~200 feet of elevation gain and then level walking. When  it intersects Road 1000, follow the road for 0.3 miles and turn right (north) onto the Tiger Mountain Trail (TMT). Ascend ~200 feet on the trail to Zeig's Zag, a sharp bend in the trail. Go straight onto the Artifacts Trail and reach the site of the fatal logging train wreck where you'll see some very interesting, old pieces of the train.

  • The Iverson Railroad Trail is open to mountain bikers but seems to be less popular than other trails.
