On the Trail

Grass Mountain

Hike the Christoff Trail (No. 1171) for 3.3 miles and turn left onto the Grass Mountain Trail (No. 1170) or right onto the Divide Trail (No. 1172) toward Bone Lake. The summit of Grass Mountain had no trees. Enjoy continuous views on the hike to and on the summit.

CHristoff Peak

7 miles roundtrip, 3,100' elevation gain, 4,767' highest elevation

Christoff Peak is an accessible hike or intermediate snowshoe that is an excellent conditioner.  It is an unmarked but easily followed trail.  It is steep in places and can be slippery when wet or icy; poles or and/traction recommended.

If road 7125/7130 is snowed in or gated, start at 1700' elevation in Greenwater, parking in one of 4-5 spots just past Naches Tavern at old Exxon sign.  Walk through neighborhood and cross Greenwater River on a bridge, then look for the unsigned but obvious and well-maintained trail heading uphill.  Turn right for a short distance on road 7130, then back to trail, crossing 7130 two more times 200' higher before the trail marked on Gaia starts.  A landing with views at 2840' makes a good break point; views can be had at several other spots as you ascend.

Larger trees appear and the trail flattens approaching the ridge at 4520'; the summit with remnants of a lookout and excellent views to towards Rainier is a short distance farther to the right.  The trail is in forest throughout and would be very unlikely to have avalanche danger except in extreme conditions.

Snowshoe Route

At the switchback at 2,100 ft take the gated road continuing straight as it winds its way  up and west, cutting switchbacks as feasible to the  its end at ~3,900 ft.  Continue along the northwest-trending ridge to the summit.
