Dog Mountain

This hike starts out following an abandoned road near Lennox Creek and then begins climbing to the summit. It is 9 miles round trip with 3,800 feet of elevation gain to a high point of 5,408 ft. There are wonderful views from the top and a bootpath down to Anderson Lake.

getting there

Take Exit 31 off of I-90, drive on Main Street through North Bend, and turn left (north) onto Ballaratt Street. Follow it as it becomes North Fork Road Southeast, an four miles from North Bend, take the left fork, and continue 17 miles where it crosses Lennox Creek and becomes Forest Road 57. Drive 3.2 miles to the Bare Mount trailhead (2,100 ft) or until the road is blocked.

on the trail

The trail begins on an old abandoned road. It follows the road for about a mile and can be quite wet depending on the season.  It is no longer officially maintained, but someone has been removing blowdowns.  It may require a bit of route-finding so this is not for beginners untrained in navigation.  It switchbacks up to the summit of Dog Mountain gaining 3,800 feet in 4 miles, so it is a challenging trip.  Views from the top include Mount Baker, Mount Rainier, the Middle Fork valley, and Glacier Peak.
