Meet at the upper Ellinor trailhead at 7:30 AM. We want to get an early start because once the snow softens it will get very slippery.
An email will be sent before the trip if recent trip reports indicate that 2WD cars won't make it to the upper trailhead; if that is the case, we'll start at the lower trailhead, which will add 3 miles and 900' of elevation gain.
This will be a moderate paced scramble, around 1000' of gain per hour with 5-minute breaks each hour. This would be a good activity for people who are interested in trying out winter scrambles for the first time. We'll keep a conversational pace, trying to balance between not sweating too much and not getting cold from inactivity. The weather forecast looks spectacular, so it may not be particularly wintery. However, it is very steep and it may be slick/icy toward the top, so it will still provide good opportunities to practice our winter scramble skills. We will discuss what type of traction to bring (crampons, microspikes, and/or snowshoes) in the days leading up to the trip.
An email will be sent to all participants with additional details a few days before the trip.
