Urban Adventure - Seattle Public Library: Central Library

We'll do a stairways rich walking tour of Seattle city core from City Hall to the Seattle Public Library via the Aquarium and Pike Place Market.

  • Easy
  • Mileage: 3.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,200 ft

We'll meet shortly before 6pm on the front steps (facing 4th Avenue) of Seattle City Hall.  Bathrooms are available before 6pm inside City Hall.

Seattle Stairway Walks #15 (2013) abounds in architectural, commercial, sculptural and stairways delights.  Our route extends the hike to Freeway Park to bump up both stairways and elevation gain. This is the 24th of 25 Seattle stairways walks, a series started in January 2017.

Early evening hikes in the city call for headlamps and urban variations on the 10 essentials.  No cotton, please, but reflective items add to our safety crossing city streets. Sunset is 6:17 pm, civil twilight a half hour later. Smaller umbrellas are OK, too.

Participants familiar with Seattle's history, architecture, cultures or other insights to our route are welcome to help with the narration.  Pace will adjust to hikers' comfort and fitness level -- this is not a marathon but a reasonable level of fitness is assumed for about 3.5 miles with at least 455 steps up and 385 steps down.  Elevation gain and loss about 1200'.
