Meet at Des Moines Beach Park (22100 Cliff Ave S, Des Moines, WA 98198) for a dawn launch (about 7:20am). Suggest arriving 6:20am for time to unload boats and park cars.
We will circumnavigate Maury counter clockwise. Tides should give us a boost in the afternoon.
We will go in winds up to 15 knots. Local winds could be stronger.
Total distance is estimated at 17nm.
Wheels may be useful for the portage. If you bring them please be able to secure them in a way that does not interfere with rescues or catch wind.
Required Equipment
These seven essentials plus The Ten Essentials are required on all sea kayaking trips. All but the whistle and clothing should be provided with any kayak rental.
- Floatation in both ends of the kayak
- U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
- Paddle
- Spray skirt
- Bilge pump with floatation
- Self-rescue paddle float
- Waterproof whistle
- Appropriate clothing for the conditions encountered seasonally
