Deception Pass

Trip

Sea Kayak - Deception Pass

Join a group of peers paddling a fast ebb current in Deception Pass. Max ebb this day is -5.8 @ 2:50 pm. Weather permitting, we'll finish the day with a trip around Deception Island.

  • Sea Kayak IV
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 6.0 nm
  • Maximum Wind: 20 kts
  • Maximum Waves: 4 ft
  • Maximum Currents: 5 kts
  • Pace: 3 kts

Meet at Bowman bay for a 11:00 am shore talk and 11:15am launch.

This trip is an opportunity to develop our skills in the company of other paddlers.  No instruction will be given.  Everyone can bring skills that they want to work on.  We will work together in mutual support of skills and safety.

Participants must have previous experience paddling in currents.  A roll is useful, but not necessary.  I expect people will capsize and get rescued.

Timing for the day:

  • 11am - Shore talk
  • 11:15 - Launch and poke around as we paddle into the pass.
  • 12:15 - At Canoe Pass
  • 14:50 - Max ebb
  • 16:15 - Back at Bowman Bay
