Intermediate Snowshoe - Lookout Mountain (Methow Valley)

Snowshoe trip to an actual lookout on Lookout Mountain, if weather and snow conditions allow. Best to plan this as part of a trip to the Methow Valley over long holiday weekend.

A snowshoe trip to Lookout Mountain in the Methow, taking the winter route as described in Dan Nelson’s book, but please note his elevation calculation is wrong, making it seem more moderate than it actually is.

Route starts off following a road, before we cut a large switchback heading straight uphill, and then follow the ridge, sometimes steeply to a false summit.  From here, we drop about 200’ before climbing up to the final summit, adding a shy 1000’.  Sharing trail breaking duties will be our key to success.

NOT open to 2022 Intermediate Snowshoe students, as you have not yet done your field trips by this date, sorry!

Weather: as with all winter trips, weather and snow conditions may either change or cancel plans.

Covid: As parking is highly limited at the trailhead, we will be carpooling from Twisp, so only fully vaccinated participants will be welcome on this trip.  We will also wear masks when traveling together in vehicles.

Covid update 12/23/21: due to the rise of Omicron and case rates, I am both changing my request and asking for a photo of your vax and booster record to be shared with me (okay to omit DOB) and am changing carpooling options to be (1) vaccinated and boosted and masked together or (2) otherwise on your own, knowing there is not much parking available, and shovels required.
