Intermediate Canyon - Lake Creek

17 rapid-fire rappels in a stunning North Cascades canyon

  • Intermediate Canyon
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 2.8 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,500 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 2,200 ft
  • Pace: Moderate

Meet at the Baker River Trail Parking Area (Google Maps) at 7:00am. We will pack out and begin hiking by 7:30am. Be ready for this canyon to take 12 hours car-to-car. Bring a headlamp and lots of snacks.

Lake Creek is a big and challenging adventure with 17 rappels up to 160 ft. The approach totals 2.1 miles and 1,500 ft of elevation gain, including a steep section that gains 1,200 ft elevation in a third of a mile. Participants should be strong rappellers, be capable of maintaining a moderate hiking pace, and come prepared for a very long day.

Due to its remoteness, Lake Creek is rarely run and we may be the first group to drop into the canyon in two years. We will be prepared to assess and rebuild anchors as necessary. This would be an excellent canyon for participants interested in observing and further developing these skills.

Leader permission is required prior to registration. We encourage all participants who are interested in this adventure to reach out and chat with us.
