Day Hike - West Tiger Mountain 1-2-3

Sleep in, then enjoy the quiet side of Tiger Mountain.

  • Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 10.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,800 ft
  • Pace: 2 mph

Exit 20 off I-90, 9am (sleep in on a Sunday, relatively speaking). Detailed instructions will be sent to participants. No parking pass needed.

We will visit all three of the major peaks of West Tiger. If the weather is good we will have lunch at the view point on Tiger #1 near the Hikers Hut (with perhaps a great view of Mt. Rainier). We will then traverse over the ridge to the summits of Tiger #2 and Tiger #3 (guaranteed great views of trees!). We might need to make adjustments if there is snow or ice on the trail, but fortunately the network of trails on Tiger Mountain allows for many itineraries. There will also be opportunities to help with navigation, if desired.

Please bring microspikes, in case we encounter patches of ice.

Pace will be moderate, with the goal of averaging 2mph, but nobody will be left behind. Expect to finish in about 6 hours (including breaks). Note that even though this is a moderate pace, the route has substantial distance and elevation gain. Please be sure it is within your current fitness level.
