Day Hike - Rainbow & Island Lakes

Hike to Island and Rainbow Lakes from the Talapus Lake Trailhead

  • Moderate/Strenuous
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 11.2 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,200 ft
  • Pace: 2 mph

Meet at 8:30 am North Bend Safeway parking lot close to the tall Safeway/O'Reilly Auto Parts/Chase Bank sign in the parking lot. It's close to I-90 exit 31.

Directions to meeting place will be emailed to all participants as soon as registration closes.

BY REGISTERING THIS LEADER CONSIDERS YOU MADE A COMMITMENT TO THE TRIP. It's only good form to cancel in the event of an injury, illness or an emergency. Even if there are people on the wait list it's often difficult to move them up close to the trip date. THANK YOU!

Our path will follow the Talapus Lake Trail passing to the east of that lake after 1.7 miles. We will turn left and then right onto the Pratt Lake Trail for a further 1.2 miles, circling above and north of Olallie Lake with great views over the lake and Bandera Mtn. on a fine day.

The last section of trail will be 1.1 miles west to reach a trail split. The short right fork will take us to Island Lake where we will eat lunch. Before we head back the same route we may visit little Rainbow Lake a short distance further west.

Our route is 10 miles round trip and 2,400 ft. elevation gain. It will be taken at a moderate pace of about 2 mph average moving speed. A good level of fitness and stamina is required.

I will e-mail more details of how to get to our meeting place and the trailhead to everyone who signs up shortly after registration closes on July 31. This message will also include an encouragement to carpool, details of restrooms, weather forecast for the area etc.

In the interim, any questions about this trip are welcome.
