Day Hike - Poo Poo Point via High School Trail

This will be a day hike to Poo Poo Point on the first day of December, with a pace of 2 to 2.5 mph. This will be a mentor hike for a new hike leader as well.

  • Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 6.6 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,100 ft
  • Pace: 2 to 2.5 mph

We will meet at the northern trailhead behind Issaquah High School at  9 AM, boots on and ready to go.

For the trailhead, take I-90 to (Exit 17) and head south on Front Street, through the picturesque old part of town. To reach the northern trailhead, turn left at the light at Sunset Way and in two blocks turn right on 2nd Ave SE. In about 0.3 miles, turn left on SE Evans Street. The pavement ends beyond 4th Pl SE (watch for potholes.) Follow SE Evans Street as it eventually bends sharply to the right and, beyond the Sportsmen's Club, dead ends at the trailhead. There is room for about six cars to park at the trailhead, and room for many more along the wide shoulders of the approaching street. There are no facilities here. Following introductions, etc, we will head on to Poo Poo Point.

The hike will total approximately 7 miles round trip with slightly over 2000'  ascent.   If the sky is relatively clear, we will go another 1/4 mile to where we can see Mt. Rainier.  While hiking, we will stay together.  Brief breaks will be taken as needed, with a longer break up at Poo Poo Point and/or the Mt. Rainier viewpoint. There will be more information in the Hello Hiker email in the week before the hike.
