North Fork Skokomish River

Trip

Day Hike - North Fork Skokomish River to Camp Pleasant

Olympic river valley hike. Big trees and a big river. We will take advantage of the long day to explore far upriver.

  • Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 15.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,000 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 2,000 ft
  • Pace: 2-2.25 mph

0730 at Staircase. Directions will be provided.

We will follow in the footsteps of the Olympic Exploring Expedition of 1890, but this time we won't have to hack our own trail out of the impenetrable forests...

Longish hike but not much elevation gain. This route parallels the North Fork Skokomish, sometimes in sight of the river and sometimes climbing around and over obstacles. We will hike 13-14 miles upriver from Staircase.

My goals for this trip are as follows:

1.  Be safe.

2. Make it to Camp Pleasant.

3.  Enjoy the forest.

My expectations for trip participants are as follows:

1. Follow Leave No Trace principles.

2. Have the physical conditioning necessary for this trip. Not a lot of elevation gain but a respectable amount of miles.

3. Be respectful of everyone on the trip.

Since this trail is relatively flat(ish) we will hike at a pace of 2-2.25 mph.
