Day Hike - Mount Rose

A conditioner hike for Olympia branch climbing and scramble students. Priority given to Olympia climbing and scramble students until 3/1/2024; after which it will open to all.

  • Very Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 5.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,200 ft
  • Pace: 1400'/hour

Meet at 7:30 AM Mount Rose Trailhead. If you are interested in carpooling, meet at Haggen  in Olympia on Cooper Point Road at 6:15.

In order to receive credit toward your graduation requirements, Olympia climbing students are required to complete this trip in under 2.5 hours with 20% of your body weight or 35 pounds, whichever is heavier.

Olympia scrambling students are required to complete this trip in under 2.5 hours with 25 pounds.

I'll bring a scale for people to weigh their packs before they leave the car.

Snowshoes and/or microspikes will be required. Please look out for an email in the days leading up to the trip to confirm gear requirements.

I prefer to lead these trips from the back, maintaining the pace that will allow people to pass as long as they're slightly ahead of me. I would love to have an assistant instructor join me who is fast enough to stay out in the front of the group.

If you are not an Olympia branch climbing or scrambling student and you sign up for this trip before it opens to everyone on March 1, I will remove you from the trip without explanation.
