Day Hike - Mount Defiance–Starvation Ridge Loop

Day Hike - Mount Defiance–Starvation Ridge Loop

Conquer the highest point in the Columbia River Gorge on this rugged loop. PLEASE READ LEADER NOTES. Do not ask permission before May 1st.

  • Very Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 14.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 5,000 ft
  • Pace: Moderate, will vary

Trailhead early morning.  It is a long 3+ hour drive, so I strongly suggest car camping somewhere along the way the night before. Car camping might be available at the Viento State Park, Oregon.

This is a long difficult trip. Please do not ask permission unless you have successfully completed at least two similar Mountaineers trips within the last six months. Trail conditions could make difficult travel, so you need to be comfortable with that. IMPORTANT: there is a lot of poison oak along the trail, as well as ticks - take that into consideration and prepare for it if you want to go. If rain is forecast, I will either cancel or change the destination.

Additional information will be emailed to participants.
