Day Hike - Mailbox Peak

What else to do on a rainy Sunday? Let's hike Mailbox, the old trail up. And decide old or new for the descent. It is expected to be wet. Last reports indicate minimal snow at the top. I'm looking at this as a conditioning hike so about 1,250/hr. Meet 7AM at the trailhead. Boots on the ground by 7:15AM. Not a beginner hike. And the old trail is steep, with some big step-ups and rooted trail.

Mailbox Peak Trailhead, upper lot with restrooms.  Meet 7:00AM with boots on the ground by 7:15AM. Discover Pass for Parking.

I'm wanting some additional vertical and this is a good challenging hike. I'm planning to ascend the old trail. And most likely come down the old trail but possibly the new trail. So the distance will be between 6 and 8 miles roundtrip, depending. I'm thinking about 1,250 ft/hr. Maybe a bit faster. I'm not planning to carry overnight weight on this one. Just the essentials and necessary gear, food, water.  This is not a beginner hike. And the old trail is steep, with some big step-ups and rooted trail. Wear clothing a shoes appropriate for conditions.
