Day Hike - Lake George

Tacoma Hikers Preferred until 6/15. Hike to Lake George.

  • Strenuous, Easy/Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 7.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,100 ft
  • Pace: Easy/Moderate

We will meet at the Puyallup South Hill Park N Ride, Hwy 512 and 94th St., at 7:30 AM. After meeting, we will drive into Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and travel up Westside Road to the trailhead. (Note for prospective drivers, Westside Road is largely packed dirt, but easy to drive on.) Drivers will have to pay to enter Mt. Rainier Park.

This hike is more correctly a "Moderate" hike, mainly due to length. We will hike up a dirt road to a trail, then through forest to Lake George, have lunch, and return. MRNP status reports that the trail from Lake George to Gobblers Knob is still covered with snow. Weather forecast (on 6/10) says that it will be hot, but we will see!  Bring a rain jacket just in case!  Families are also welcome!
