Day Hike - Eagle Peak

Be rewarded with a beautiful view of Mt. Rainier at the end of the Tatoosh range at Eagle Peak Saddle. The hike begins with steep switchbacks finishing with a short steep traverse above treeline. The climb to the view is worth the effort.

  • High Point Elevation: 5,720 ft
  • Pace: 2 mph

Meeting Place: We will meet in Eatonville at 7 am, move gear and carpool to the Nisqually entrance of Mt. Rainier and then to Longmire. ***Driver/leader has a permit to get in and a car reservation and room for 4 additional participants.

Carpooling: Be willing to chip in for gas to and from Eatonville.

This hike begins behind the Longmire National Park Inn beyond the Nisqually River. As we take multiple switchbacks sure to get your heart thumping we will cross an open slope where wildflowers bloom later in the season. Eventually we will climb up to the Eagle Peak Saddle (hike does not include Eagle or Chutla Peaks) where we'll have lunch and a nice view to take a break.

* Required Gear/Supplies This early season hike might include wildflowers emerging and some icy spots so micro-spikes must be carried and are a requirement as an 11 essential for the higher elevations. Boots are also required. Trekking poles highly recommended. At Eagle Peak Saddle we'll find a view for lunch so bring your favorite plus snacks. Water 1.5L recommended.
