Day Hike - Dirty Harry's Peak

Close-in, fairly strenuous hike with good views. Be ready, please, for possible bugs, loose rock, fallen trees. Poles recommended.

  • *Varies*, Moderate, Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 8.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,350 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 4,662 ft
  • Pace: Ascent 1k+ foot/hr

Let's meet at the trailhead at 7:30am to be ahead of crowd and heat.

From Seattle, take exit 38 towards the Fire Training Academy. After exiting, head right at the stop sign and drive 1.8 miles. The road comes to a junction. Turn left to go underneath the freeway and you will see the parking lot ahead of you with a trailhead sign and a bathroom.

If you care to carpool, let me know. I can meet anywhere W of trailhead along I-90.

Please note that this is to the Peak, not just to the Balcony.

Info on the route in this recent trip report. Dirty Harry's Balcony, Dirty Harry's Museum, Dirty Harry's Peak — Washington Trails Association (wta.org)

This trip report mentions bugs. Dirty Harry's Peak, Dirty Harry's Balcony — Washington Trails Association (wta.org)

Hard rain (unlikely) or thick smoke (more likely, sigh) may cancel.

Please have snacks and clothes available to spend 30 - 40 min at summit as group and Leader (me) want.

Discover Pass required. At least 1 pole recommended for the descent, depending on the state of your knees.

Dogs are allowed on this trail. If you are a dog owner and care to bring your one (1) dog that you will keep leashed at all times and you'll clean up and carry the poop, please let me know when you sign up that you are bringing doggy and I will note it on description.

If you prefer to not hike with a dog, please let me know that when you sign up, and I'll note "no dogs" on this description. So whoever signs up and makes their dog request first gets their preference.

I will be away from internet and not replying to emails from Tue. AM 7/20 - Wed. evening 7/21.

I've never been to "The Museum," a short hike off main trail. If majority wants to go there, we can do so on the descent. Apparently it's just an old rusted out truck.
