Day Hike - Blanca Lake

A mid-week day hike to one of the most popular destinations in the Central Cascades. Let's hope for blue skies, fall color and low crowds!

  • Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 7.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,300 ft
  • Pace: 1.75

Meet at the Trailhead at 9:00 AM. Factor in extra drive time for weekday morning rush hour traffic.  I'll send an email several days in advance to suggest a location to meet for carpooling.   Follow the driving directions for the Beckler River Road approach to the trailhead given on the WTA website.

This hike is rated as difficult/strenuous because it has over 3,000 feet of gain in 3.5 miles.  The goal is to maintain an average of 1.75 MPH pace. We'll hike as a group, taking a 5-minute break every hour and a 30-45 minute early lunch break at the top. It's okay to stop for photos or to identify plants on the way up, while keeping an eye on the groups progress. We should be back at the trailhead between 2:30 - 3:00.

This trip is for Mountaineers members only.  Permission isn't required in advance but I do check participants' experience. I may reach out to you if you don't have recent similar hiking experience to see if this hike is a good fit.

This hike will be cancelled if the weather forecast is poor (rain or snow) or air quality is poor.
