Day Hike - Big Creek Loop

Spring flower loop hike with conditioning on a portion of the route

  • Easy/Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 6.9 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,500 ft
  • Pace: 2 mph

We will be meeting at the Bremerton Airport at 8:00 AM with a possible pitstop in Hoodsport prior to arriving at the trailhead at 10:30 AM.

Drivers please bring your  NW Forest/National Park Passes.  Sometimes parking opens up ahead of camping season and if that happens, a pass will be required.  Otherwise, we will be parking along the shoulder across from the gate and no pass would be required.

The route will include an easy loop around a series of creeks.  We will then hike up to a lookout with a view of Lake Cushman (on a clear day) which is a good lunch stop.   After a rest, we will continue further up and tag the Mt Ellinor trailhead which has peekaboo views from the road.  Then it's all downhill mostly from there.

Possible plants blooming might include rattlesnake plantain, wild ginger, twinflower, pink wintergreen, and woodland violets.  Also in past years there have been calypso orchids.  On upper portions of the trail, there may be different flora to be identified.

Nearly 8 miles roundtrip, 1500' elevation gain total.  Of the total, the side-trip adds 2.6 mi and 650'.
