A group campsite has been arranged at the Haystack Resevoir Campground, ~15 minutes away from Smith Rock State Park.  Participants are strongly encouraged to arrive the evening of Thursday Oct 20.  Climbing to take place at Smith Rock State Park, and possibly Trout Creek (also proximate),  on Friday Oct. 21, Saturday Oct 22, and Sunday Oct. 23, with start times and objectives to be determined on site.

An Alpine Ambassadors hosted weekend intended primarily to benefit those providing Basic Rock experiences for Mountaineers participants.  Experienced volunteers will create a space for sharing tips on climbing, efficient anchors and multi-pitch transitions, protecting routes, and descending safely.

  • Passive protection (e.g. 1 set of nuts)
  • Active protection (e.g. 1 set of Black Diamond cams, size 0.4 to 3 or equivalent camalots)
  • Alpine draws (e.g. 6 sewn runners with 12 wiregate carabiners)
  • Assisted-braking belay device like Petzl Gri Gri or Mad Rock Lifeguard
