Backpack - Rockwall Trail

Spectacular two-part Canadian Rockies trip. This trip is a continuation of the the Ball Range Traverse trip beginning Sept. 11. Visit the best of Banff and Kootenay National Parks in a 10 day backpack extravaganza. Glaciers, golden larches and amazing views everyday.

  • Moderate/Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 33.8 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,400 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 8,000 ft
  • Pace: 2-2.5 MPH

While this second leg of a two-part trip will begin at Paint Pot TH in Kootenay Naional Park, Canada on Sept. 16th, it is a continuation of the prior and connected backpack trip in Banff NP-- Ball Range Traverse (see past for Sept. 11-15 trip). Paritipants need to do both trips.

Note: Participants need to sign up for and go on both the Rockwall and Ball Range Traverse backpacks.

We have camp reservations at  Helmet Falls 9/16, Tumbling Creek 9/17 and Floe Lake 9/18.  The night of 9/19 we will drive from the TH to Yoho National Park and camp in the Kicking Horse car campground.   Then we have a 9 hour drive home on 9/20.  See the Ball Range Traverse trip for the other half of the itinerary.

Canada approved bear spray will be required as is a valid passport or enhanced driver's license to enter Canada.  This trip is relatively  expensive with hefty fees to entire the National Park about $70 per person and about $10 per night for back-country campsites (Canadian Dollars), in addition to front country campsites and gas/car expenses.  Most likely participants will be required to share a 2 person tent with another same gendered person.  We are limited to a total of 3 tents and three tent pads for the trip(s).  More details will follow.

Leader's Permission required:  Participants need to have backpacked with  the leader on comparably difficult trips in the past or know the leader from other Mountaineers' activities and have backpack experience in this up coming summer that demonstrates conditioning  and ability to complete  3 nights or longer trips and climb 3000' with a full back in one day. Please let me know the expiration date of your passport or enhanced license.
